![]() ![]() I'd say it's worth right around $300 - $385 depending on how bad you want it. If pushed, all base model parts, modifications, chambering, and care in assembly indicate a kitchen table custom Savage Model 99. Tang safeties are late model, detachable magazines are late model, the stock has obviously been refinished, and the barrel is from the 70' special edition everyone's mentioned. The 99C was briefly reintroduced from 1995 to 1998 but I have no data on it. (My info on the late series (A-D) sn stamped guns is sketchy & derivative.) ![]() By 1981 they were up to "D", which would put a "C" code 99C anywhere in that date range (probably 77/78) - though in the case of the Octagon barrel it could still mean "C"ustom. Between 1971 and initial discontinuation in 1986(?) the SNs had a series code beginning with "A". ![]() "O" and "Q" were not used because of possible confusion/punch wear. The letter corresponds to the date of manufacture. It will be a small circle or oval with one or two numbers and a letter. (At some point someone put a 1981 era Savage marked "white line" butt-pad on mine.)Ä«etween 19 all 99s have a small stamp on the front of the lever boss just above the link pin. Note that the SN is NOT on the lower left of the receiver, which dates my "C" as "earlier" than yours, though my SN is 1167xxx. ![]() For comparison, here is my 1968 "C" model: ![]()
